At a Deep Purple Tribute

This was the last time I sang live, almost a year ago now… It was at Gurgaun for some friends in Delhi who did a Deep Purple Tribute gig… It was good fun… I only did the one song – a heavy metal version of Smoke On The Water… With no practice though – bad idea… I meanI knew the song but not the arrangement… The end was a bit of a mess but it went ok… Thing is, I know the Deep Purple guys a bit having opened for them in India a couple of times in the 90s… they are great guys, great stars to hang out with… no pretence or foolishness… at a Mumbai gig with 25000 fans waiting for them to hilt the stage after Millennium had finished with our set, I remember what struck me most was the calm backstage, not at all what one might think… There was no childish screaming or messing around, no tantrums, just a hard rock band about to perform and taking it as seriously as if it were their first ever gig… Deep respect for Deep Purple…
