Radio CeeVees

How can a 23 year old have an 8 page CV? Its just not right is all. Its asinine and a waist of everyone’s time. Say what has to be said and leave it at that. We don’t need to know your class 7 grades. And another thing while we are on CVs, MS Word is not a “skill”!

Its the first impression you will make. The bit at the beginning, “Objective” is a chance to be creative, show off here, be original, do not cut and paste! Say something that has not been said, something that is interesting about you and what you want to achieve as a radio professional. Oh and by the way, while we’re at it, you cant put your Pop as a reference.

Always put your age. You might be surprised that many of us in radio are happy to hire 40 your olds with talent. And even at that age 2 pages is enough. Pulees, I don’t need to know which church choir you sang in. And while we’re at it, scented paper is actually a good idea – who would have thought 🙂

This one really irks me. Not only does this 23 your old have a 6 page essay with each page filled up, and not only does he manage to squeeze in the postal address of his educational institutions but this one also mentions Internet as a skill. Oh, and while we are at it, no, Facebook and YouTube are not skills.

So what skills are required? Well its as simple as this, we are looking for a creative person who can work professionally in a team environment, after all a programming team is like a soccer squad, everyone has to work together. Oh and before I go, one last thing, know who you are meeting, know their station, listen to it, have an opinion on it about 75% good and 25% improvements.
